About Detrice

Hi there – I’m Detrice Batten.

I’m a successful co-parent myself—I’ve walked in your shoes. I know what it feels like to separate the personal relationship from the co-parenting relationship while keeping the child first.

" Healthy co-parenting begins with focusing on the child, not the conflict."

As a certified parenting and co-parenting educator, I bring over 7 years of experience across education, healthcare, individual and family services, and human resources. I’ve led community projects that supported youth advocacy, education, social skills, parent-child bonding, and mentorship for adolescents and adults.

I also spent more than 10 years in leadership roles at Procter & Gamble (P&G) and Berkshire Hathaway, where I partnered with organizations like the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education and family support programs.

My certification in parenting education comes from the AJ Novick Group, Inc., an organization with continuing education approvals from the Better Business Bureau (A+ rating), NAADAC, and the Board for Certification of Addiction Specialists.

My areas of expertise include:

  • Co-parenting strategies that put children first

  • Teamwork and planning for family success

  • Single parenting support

  • Effective communication and conflict management

  • Social awareness and empathy in family dynamics

By combining both professional expertise and lived experience, I help parents move from conflict to cooperation—creating healthier homes for their children.

Detrice’s Co-Parenting Journey

When I had my son, I thought co-parenting would come naturally. I was confident in my ability to communicate, listen, show empathy, and help others. But despite those strengths, I often found myself clashing with my son’s father.

Every conversation about our child seemed to spiral into an argument, leaving both of us in a negative space. I kept asking myself:

       “What am I doing wrong?”

The Trial and Error

At first, I tried ignoring the conflict—hoping things would magically improve. Of course, there was no magic.

Then I tried the silent treatment, only responding when he spoke first. But I quickly realized, this is my child’s father—I can’t just shut him out.

Next, I tried to “stay friends” like we were before our son was born. That didn’t work either. It only created more confusion and hurt.

The Turning Point

After many failed attempts, tears, and prayers, I realized the truth: the only thing I could change was my mindset.

“I had to stop trying to control what I couldn’t—and start focusing on what truly mattered: my son.”

I learned to:

  • Listen more and push my views less

  • Let go of the small stuff

  • Save my energy for parenting, not conflict

  • Accept that we had different upbringings, values, and perspectives

The Lesson Learned

I finally understood that having a child together didn’t mean we would always agree. What it does mean is that we have a responsibility to successfully co-parent despite our differences—by putting emotions aside, compromising when needed, and always keeping our son’s best interest at the center.

“Co-parenting isn’t about being the same—it’s about working together for your child.”

If my journey sounds familiar, know that you don’t have to go through this alone. Reach out today, and let’s work together to create a healthier co-parenting path for your family.
